my mama the golden girl

my mom celebrated her 60th birthday last september 14. and as a symbolic gift-giving, we gave her "things that got better with age": cheese (brie), wine, an unifinished cross-stitch (needs more time), donuts (ok, this wasn't part of the theme) and a plant (well, the plant was part of the plan).

curiously, none of us thought of giving her a time-deposit, i guess our minds aren't programmed that way. we did wonder if we could give her another grandchild in time, but sadly, nature doesn't work that way. in any case, aimee has one on the way in april : ) (yes, my sister's pregnant!)

along with the gifts, was a list of reasons to be a happy golden girl (sabi nila 30 is the new 20... so 60 should be the new 50...golden age... hehe)

1. you can spoil your grandkids without feeling guilty that you're turning them into monsters.
2. people give you their seats at the MRT. (well, sometimes)
3. you've had a lifetime of having friends, and these lifelong friends are for keeps.
4. you've been there, done that and don't mind doing it again (got this from a song of the brew).
5. people don't (or rarely) question your wisdom.
6. your children can wipe their own butts by now (but will probably always still need you for other things).
7. your husband is a Golden boy, and his pangchichicks jokes are only that --- jokes.
8. you are much loved by 60 years worth of people: children, family, friends, colleagues, students.
9. etc, etc.
